I think that I have a ‘chocolate chip cookie curse.’
No matter how many different recipes I make, how hard I try, underbake, overbake, mix like crazy, just incorporate, freeze, chill, don’t chill… it doesn’t matter WHAT I do, my cookies never come out the way I want them to. And it ONLY happens with chocolate chip cookies.
The are flat as discs. It seems like all the dough falls to the baking sheet and leaves the chips exposed. If anyone can remedy this problem for me, I’d love you forever. I’d even send you a package of the beautiful cookies, scout’s honor!!
Aside from my displeasure at the appearance of these, they tasted great. I made 4 different versions (posted above, respectively): regular ole chocolate chip cookies, CCC with walnuts, CCC with coconut and raisins, and Chocolate CCC. I also used bittersweet, semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips/chunks for variety.
The coconut raisin variation was dubbed “the best cookies I’ve ever had” by a coworker. None of the cookies lasted very long, which is a good sign. So I’ll be making these again, nipping and tucking until they look like they do in the book. I’m OCD like that. 😀
Thanks to Kait of Kait’s Plate for picking these. Head on over to her blog for the recipe and the the TWD blogroll to see the different variations of a classic.

Well as long as they tasted great thats all that matters!! Sounds like a lot of people had problems with flat cookies. I froze my dough, sio maybe that helped.
Love the photos of the broken in half cookies–yum! I’m still looking for a go-to recipe too, so can’t help you there. These were a bit too flat for my liking too.
4 different varieties – you go girl! I barely made one 🙂 Needless to say these weren’t a favorite here. They were too thin and crispy.
You were one busy lady! I left out half the butter (by mistake) so mine were on the cakey side. But not bad!
Oh, that’s so frustrating! But I’m glad you’re going to persevere with this recipe. May I recommend freezing your batter? It really helps!
You made 4 different CCC’s? Good for you!
I didn’t like this recipe because it came out flat and thin and I like mine full and bumpy!
They look really yummy! These were a thin cookie in general, so you’re not alone. Glad they were a hit at the office.
They look great! Love your site,so glad I came across it 🙂
Im glad you enjoyed these cookies too. I thought they were good and apparently so did my family because they were gone in a day! YOur cookies look great!
I hope your baking with me next week, I can’t believe it’s my turn to host..where did a year and a half go!?
I know what you mean. I haven’t found “THE” recipe either so maybe we can help each other out. If you find it first, you send it to me and vice versa 🙂 I have to say though that yours are not as flat as my CCCs and I really like the diff choc that you used. You can see the lighter choc and the dark choc in that cross-section shot. Great job!
Oh, coconut raisin sounds really good! It sounds like you had a lot of fun with these!
OOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Love that pic with the melty chips. Looks great.
