TWD – Sweet Cream Biscuits

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: biscuits hate me.

They don’t rise or puff up or have that beautiful fluffy texture. No. Not for me. They usually taste good, which is the most important part of baking… but sometimes I would just like to turn out some aesthetically pleasing biscuits. Is one time too much to ask? *sigh* I’ll keep plugging away hoping to find my mistake and one day, ONE DAY I will turn out marvelous, glorious, sky high biscuits. I have faith.

Aside from the aesthetic disappointment, these were the best tasting biscuits I’ve made so far, which made me realize that I like my biscuits on the sweeter side. They came together VERY quickly (no waiting for butter to come to room temperature, few simple ingredients, mix and shape and you’re done) and tasted delicious!

I hope to master the art of biscuit making and I think I’ll use this recipe as my guinea pig. Cross your fingers for me 🙂

Thank you to Melissa of Love At First Bite for choosing these yummy biscuits. Head on over to her blog for the recipe and don’t forget to stop by all of the other bakers’ blogs to see how wonderfully puffy their biscuits came out.

  1. Yep, I’m with you, I am not a huge success in the biscuit department either. Yours look better than mine, however, so I am thinking you win this week between the two of us. The inside shot is very nice!

Biscuits are NOT easy to master. After 30 years still working on them. But these were good and yours look tasty.

Me, too! Biscuits and pie crust. I finally found a crust that usually works for me (RLB’s), but the biscuits I still need to figure out what I do wrong. I love the first photo with the stack and the one pulled apart. They look delicious!

  4. Your picture looks fantastic. I wouldn’t worry about these biscuits not coming out light and flaky. I don’t think they’re supposed to be that way. Try the biscuits on page 21 (I like the buttermilk version). Now those are light, flaky, and easy to make!

  5. I agree – these biscuits have a great taste to them, even if they don’t rise and fluff beautifully! So glad you decided to bake with me this week!

  6. Your biscuits look pretty good to me! This is a good recipe to practice with, as it’s so quick and easy to put together. I’ll be making these again too:)

  7. Haha you and me both Jeannette! Biscuits are not my friend. I don’t even enjoy eating them that much so I can’t find the motivation to practice making them until I finally get it right. Glad yours were still tasty this week!

  8. These still look quite tasty – don’t be too hard on yourself. Taste is what counts – remember that! Now, back to another batch of these….. 🙂

  9. Mine just puffed up a little and didn’t rise like I’d hoped. But I am not giving up and will be trying again soon. Oh, and next week cookies…YUM!

  10. Making biscuits is always intimidating to me but I agree they were delicious! It is so nice stopping by your sweet place here.

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving your comment! Nice to meet you 🙂

    Kindly, ldh
